The Two P’s – Base of Your Career as a Personal Trainer
55You should be professional in personal training. Even if you does not seems personal training as a job you should be professional in selecting your clients. Below there are some points which helps you to excel in your career and to have stress less work.
1. You should be expert in marketing your self. While selecting your clients you must be careful, if your clients are diabetic patients or some one with similar deceases you must enquire his health matters with his doctor or else your exercises can make many negative effects and thus you may trapped. So while selecting your clients you must select healthy clients it decreases your stress with them and doing this is not wrong.
2. You should not train your clients till they crash. This is a common mistake made by many trainers on their clients to make some quick difference or something. But you should understand a fact that there is no need to prove yourself actually there is nothing to prove. You must push your to do some exercise only according to their health.
3. Do not show interest in kids. Avoiding kids for training is good, because you should know many things to train them. You must also understand a fact that kids are not small adults. That is, training kids are entirely different from training adults. For training kids you should have some specific knowledge about training them.
4. Ask your clients to bring their friends so that you can reduce their individual rates. You must create a special price structure for training small groups. Even though we all develop a relation with the clients we must be consistent while dealing with them including how much you charge.
5. You must not torture your clients with new techniques which avoid them to work independent, thinking that you will lose your client but this is truly ridiculous. By doing this will easily what is happening and they will be so irritated with you. Another important thing is that you should not gossip about your clients to anyone or any other clients. If your clients are friends they may tell that you are not so effective. So avoid gossiping. If you want to be highly regarded you should be positive and professional.
6. Do not try to sell yourself this saying that I am as qualified as some one else etc. . . . You should be very professional, your appearance credibility and specialty should be attracted by your clients. They will help you to reach your goals.
7. Make your clients clear that paying more does not convey that they get more. I know many trainers who do not work as they charge. These highly charging clients may not be much efficient and they may not inspire their clients. But in your case you should make them clear that you are worth for what you charge. I often give sample program for new clients to make them sure that I am worth for this money.
8. The personal training is not only an easy and enjoyable job but also a serious business too. There some personal trainers who increase their charges so high and decide not to rise more than this but clients will not support this and this technique will be a flop.
9. You should not tell your clients what to eat. But it does not mean that you should not suggest the general ideas about their diet. It is better to say them that you are not a nutritionist. This is good for you and for your client.
